To your point, I really liked Civil War and I did not even know that Alex Garland went on Pod Save America let alone said something controversial to a guy named “Jon”… I guess it makes sense that all I’ve heard about Warfare has been from a not-famous guy named “Ray Mendoza.”

100% agree about what you said about the theme parks. That’s where Disney tests out its tech toys, but also its ideas of IP — I finally went to Star Wars Land for the first time in October, and it was *so* underwhelming. I was like the perfect audience for it too (star wars obsessed as a kid, disney fan) but it was so lifeless. But also i had seen the land already dozens of times through disney vloggers, so i almost didn’t need to go see it. That land’s relative failure was a good signal of how Disney was going to misuse all of the Star Wars IP. They were essentially given a layup, but they completely fucked it. I really sort of want to go see Snow White (but i don’t want to pay them money), but also the mention of a live action Aristocats depressed me so much (lol).

it's really crazy. i like the theming, like, galaxy's edge is far more pleasant and logical than the avatar one, where there is nothing to do and which looks nothing like pandora (you cannot, try as they might, make mountains float). but it's still really boring and doesn't feel like star wars. the food is so good tho...

and what's even crazier is they built an entire new transportation system and redid hotels because they were prepping for a huge influx of crowds when it opened but the crowds never came. obviously disney attendance more broadly has not gone down but they try to eventize these weird, expensive, lazy lands and no one cares. my thing is like... tokyo disney just opened a frozen world. if they opened one here--just redo the same footprint--people would go so crazy. but instead we're getting cars land in like 2029

and you can't see snow white, it's really not worth it. i think we both have to see aristocats tho

yeah the pandora land was so weird to me, i went a few years ago and i was just like 'uh, ok? avatar was ok?', like why make that into an entire land. And yes agreed on Galaxy's Edge, the food was really good and I even liked the bar thing that they had, along with their blue drinks...

Also, i keep forgetting about the Star Wars Hotel. when they announced that like however many years ago (8? 9?) it sounded so cool, and I was legitimately willing to pay way too much money to go to a hotel where I could walk around with Jabba the Hutt or whatever. But that was such a COMPLETE disaster, it's laughable. I have zero clue what they were thinking with it. But it makes a lot more sense if you think of it as an experiment, to see how many vloggers and streamers and diehards are willing to pay like $5k to be in a concrete box for 3 days. I watched so many vlogs from that hotel, and I think i can see the seed of a cool idea in there, but the execution was just so bad, it's beautiful how bad it was.

Also, Famous & Beloved/3 Chairs crossover event for Aristocats?? [If i'm still alive then, that is >:)]. aristocats live-action is such a funny idea to me, it's going to be a complete disaster, but i'm still going to get happy when the kitties fling paint on the piano and do their scales and arpeggios bit.

when the star wars hotel opened i was running 3-hour vlogs back to back. i could not get enough

and, yeah, i guess that was the experiment. it just seems like an awful lot of work for an experiment! and, now they're not even using it for anything but office space. i think it really was just a huge miscalculation, which is what i find so fascinating about corporate ideology now. lots of swings and misses!

the best food at star wars is the cream cheese cold brew with coco puffs on top, and the popcorns good too. i also like the blue milk, but i've never been to the bar. granted, the food at avatar is really good too

aristocats crossover cracking me up. it could be kind of awesome as just a cgi mess. i don't even know how you make that one not racist. but i guess if snow white can cut all the songs from snow white then they will just make a new movie lol

yeah i kind of admire the risk that they took with the hotel, but it just baffles me how the idea ever got out of the brainstorm stage. Then again, Disney has famously had terrible ideas pushed all the way to the top by certain leaders and CEOs... a disney tradition at this point...

I never had the cream cheese cold brew, but that sounds so good wtf. the bar was fun -- they had in there the old robot from Star Tours. it felt like one of the few places in the land with actual energy.

yes, what came to mind immediately with aristocats was a certain... moment from the 'everybody wants to be a cat' song. I actually just watched one of the scenes from the live action Lady and the Tramp (lol) to doublecheck this, because the animated movie had that iconic siamese cat song and... in the live action they aren't even siamese cats anymore, and the song is completely different!! They did a woke on my disney movie!!!! So i guess in aristocats, they'll just completely change like all of the story and pretend that there wasn't once a version where the cat sings about fortune cookies. But as long as they have stereotypes of the French, i'll be sitting my ass in the chair for aristocats live action!!!!

I do love the Thunderbolts marketing stuff. If we're going to glaze a distribution company as having a house style anyway why shouldn't they ape that? I thought it was crazy 5 years ago that people clapped when the A24 logo came on screen at NYFF and it was even crazier that they launched a premier service that gave access to a close friends story and secret merch drops, so I'm fine if people want to mimic that style, clearly it works even if I think it's stupid. They should use the Scorsese Cinema emote in tweets too, you might as well

I'd like to see movies emulate more elements of streaming culture soon, I want to be in a twitch chat at the multiplex

i unironically think it's incredible that a24 was able to do this, and i honestly don't know how. like, the majority of what neon buys is essentially blumhouse but they don't have that reputation, nor do they have a "cannes" thing going or anything. i just think a24 understands a cultural pulse that others of its caliber doesn't, namely that parts of the industry and types of movies are falling in on one another

and same. my friend said he wants a version of 4dx where there's like someone actively doing stuff in the booth like shooting people w water guns. i'm not sure about it but i like the idea
