Taylor Sheridan directed Wind River, which I might be the only person on earth who loved. Nonetheless im not gonna watch Yellowstone, but I look forward to your scathing takedowns of it so I can feel more assured in my decision to never watch it!
I have watched all but the final season (once out of the spell, I found it hard to return but perhaps if you make it that far, I will feel compelled to join you). It’s a lot. Some of it very interesting and almost of all of it ridiculous. It also looks incredible. I don’t really get Taylor Sheridan and his ‘MEN against a changing world’ I find increasingly wearying (I only made it about half way through Land Man while quarantining with Covid over Xmas) but he does have a quality that oddly compelling. Very excited to see what you think of this show!
i find it interesting that the show spans pre to post covid for these reasons and am def interested in unpacking that. i find dumb guys who have dumb politics make art that i like a lot of the time, simply by virtue of being unmarred by contemporary discursive and stylistic conventions. for as conservative as culture is, i also find it has a uniqueness that you otherwise really have to dig for
I think I’m probably the only sub to F&BN, paid or otherwise, who has watched all of Yellowstone. I’d like to be proven wrong here, though.
It’s excellent, but even more excellent is the first prequel series, 1883, starring real-life husband and wife Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. My understanding is that Sheridan cribbed heavily from Lonesome Dove to make this.
After much consideration and witnessing a roommate’s rewatch of Succession, I think it’s safe to say that Yellowstone is the far superior television show between the two, that Taylor Sheridan is a more serious artist than Jesse Armstrong, and that Wes Bentley should have won an Oscar before Kieran Culkin.

anyone should have won an oscar before culkin
I fw Taylor Sheridan (movies) and I think it's so funny Helen Mirren likes working for him. She'll do whatever!
