As you’re reading this I am on vacation in the United Kingdom. Next week I will have lots to say about what I’ve gotten up to here, but since I am taking the week fully off from computer, and because last week’s Weekly Update was not a Weekly Update but a celebration of the movie Trap, today’s post is a bit of a catch-up from the week prior to my touchdown at Heathrow.

When I last left the personal updates I had just traded New York for a midwestern respite before, as ⅓ of the kids in Alien: Romulus would say, holiday. It is apple season at my house, with trees peaking earlier than normal in early August. I grew up eating so many apples this time of year that, as everyone else began buying cider, I was completely sick of them. This year is no different, but it’s also the first season in a while I’ve spent enough time at home to really reap the benefits; in the week I was there there were 3 pies, apple sauce, apple zucchini bread, apple cake, and apple soup (good). Most notably I was eating apples off the trees like they were Cheetos. If I had to run out to my car or sat outside for a few minutes, I would find one that had fallen on the ground and eat around the bruise, then I would get bored and find another. These apples are somewhere between lychee and store-bought apple size, and they almost taste like artificial, Japanese apple flavoring, if you’ve ever had the pleasure. Summer is my favorite season by a long shot, but fall has the best food, and Apple Bonanza has me excited for other great sweet products like sweet potato casserole, which I eat for breakfast for 5 days after Thanksgiving, making it the greatest 5 mornings of the whole year.
