can’t stop thinking about the Next Best Picture guy calling it “an immense tower of American storytelling”. A tower of storytelling? Is that an expression? Did he forget the phrase “towering achievement” while he was typing this one handed at the urinal between screenings? and now when I finally see The Brutalist I will be thinking about Clare’s review too — trying to be openhearted but the most compelling pieces on it so far have been the pans (Vadim’s in Filmmaker esp)
exactly. empty platitudes about scope and scale. if a movie makes you talk like you've never seen a movie before / you're unable to clearly describe why you liked it maybe head back to the drawing board. i'll read vadim's review now
I want to like The Brutalist (need to see what my Joesph is up) and I cannot bring myself to read your criticism until I see it. I appreciate how hard you go when you don’t like something and am eagerly waiting to return to it.
thankfully for my ego, the things i like about the brutalist are not what you suggest the fans will like about it i just like the cinematography and adrien brody’s face lalala
oh it was beautiful. and sounded great. but that makes me hate it more… that there was a lot of stuff there that dead ended. i don’t get as worked up when something is completely useless
the more I read about The Brutalist the more it seems clear I have no idea what's going on -- either in it, or any other movie

this is exactly how i too felt about Saturday Night, a movie i watched with a big coca-cola and smiling like this: :)
it’s movie made for a freestyle machine world
no exactly

i can't imagine you will be thrilled by joe's turn here... crazily unpleasant thing to watch & hear
This is the worst news I’ve heard since I found out Emerald Fennel’s Wuthering Heights adaptation
