This week’s update is moved up by a day so it doesn’t come out on the 4th when nobody is on their computers. Clap if you care.
The day I got a push notification that marshmallow flavored creams and graham cracker dust had arrived at Dunkin’ I became obsessed, texting and telling everyone I could think of, “I’m going to get Dunkin’ s’mores soon.” This is probably because I have an eating disorder and was hungry but couldn’t recognize the cue as such, instead choosing to believe I had a primal drive for creams and dusts (true, in a way). Due to the eating disorder, though, I could not commit to the “S’mores Cold Brew,” which, to a normal reader, might sound innocent. As someone for whom the link to the Dunkin’ Nutrition PDF has been purple across browsers and devices for a decade, however, I knew it was not.1 I ultimately could not even add “Marshmallow Cold Foam” to a normal cold brew, because I could see the orange columns of the Dunkin’ Nutrition PDF in my mind. 2
I opted, instead, for an iced coffee with oat milk and 2 pumps of the s’mores swirl. While it was not nearly as good as the cherry cold brew latte from Blank Street, it was pretty good, like the pleasant elements of a s’mores flavored protein bar distilled into an absolutely fine Dunkin’ iced coffee. I would say I would get it again, but two days after I had it the first time I stood in the LaGuardia Dunkin’ line for almost 10 minutes with the express intent of getting it again and ordered my go-to–an iced coffee with oat milk and raspberry–instead. This was because of the eating disorder, mostly, but also because when I tried the s’mores swirl I had also had a bite of Liam’s s’mores donut, and with each passing minute the flavors of each were tangled further in my memory: problematic because the s’mores donut tasted exactly like the swirl but worse.3
